I believe that in the original letter to the Corinthians, the portion of instruction in chapters 5 & 6 Paul meant to be as one. In these two chapters, Paul is dealing with the problem of sexual immorality in the church. In chapter 5, he addresses the church about the man who had taken his father’s wife for himself. Paul was utterly surprised at their reaction to such an outrage in the church community. Instead of confronting the man about his outright sin, they not only were tolerating that the man’s actions, but they were also proud about it.
