Follow God’s Example

Ephesians 5:1-20

Key Verse: 5:1

“Be imitators of God, therefore, as dear loved children” [“Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children….”]

In chapter 4, we thought about unity in church. Those who accept Christ as Lord, regardless of their human backgrounds, become “one” as members of God’s church. To accept Christ as Lord is essential to become one. To accept Christ as Lord means to submit to his Lordship. Christ is head of the body and the center of the church. Each member must live a Christ-centered life and grow to the full measure of Christ’s image, that is, grow in godliness.

Do Not Give The Devil A Foothold

Living Waters Will Flow From Jerusalem

King Over The Whole Earth

A Fountain Will Be Opened

Zechariah 13:1-9

“On that day a fountain will be opened to the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and impurity.”

Zechariah and Haggai both prophesied to the returned exiles from Babylon, encouraging them to rebuild the Temple of God in the city of Jerusalem in spite of all the opposition they were receiving from their enemies at the time as the prophet Ezra testifies. Two Shepherds

Zechariah 11:1-17

“Then I took my staff called Favor and broke it, revoking the covenant I had made with all the nations. It was revoked on that day, and so the afflicted of the flock who were watching me knew it was the word of the Lord.”

This chapter is the conclusion of the section of Chapters 9 through 11. In chapter 9, God executes His judgment upon the nations surrounding Israel. It portraits a picture of God as the divine warrior watching over Israel. He said He will defend His house (9:8). The Messiah returns as the Deliverer, and gathers His people to establish His Kingdom ruling from Jerusalem. The Lord Will Care For His People

Zechariah 10:1-12

Key Verse 10:4

“From Judah will come the cornerstone, from him the tent peg, from him the battle bow, from him every ruler.”

When this chapter opens, it does so with an exhortation to ask the Lord for rain.  We know that this passage is one of the prophecies that Zechariah proclaimed to Israel after his night of visions.  But we’re not quite sure when he declares this prophecy.  Yet we see that this portion begins with the simple appeal to ask the Lord for some rain.  In respect to this whole passage, this is the one thing that Israel was to do.  And the rest of this passage seems to be God’s response to this prayer.  And the response seems to be a thunderstorm … Read the rest

The Lord Will Care For His Flock

Zechariah 10:1-3

“For the Lord Almighty will care for his flock, the house of Judah, and make them like a proud horse in battle.”

 “The Lord their God will save them on that day as the flock of his people. They will sparkle in his land like jewels in a crown. SEE, YOUR KING COMES TO YOU

Zechariah 9:1-9

Key verse 9

Chapters 9-14 are prophetic in nature and deal with the overthrow of world powers and the establishment of Messiah’s Kingdom. This great prophetic section contains two prophetic oracles. The first oracle in chapters 9-11 basically embraces the first coming and the rejection of Messiah. It describes the judgment through which world powers are destroyed and the House of Judah (the Church?) coming into full blessings with strength to overcome all her enemies and sorrows. The second oracle in chapters 12-14 deals with the second coming and acceptance of Messiah. It deals with the divine purging through which Israel herself is sifted in the final great struggle with the nations and is changed into a holy and priestly nation.

Let Your Hands Be Strong

Zechariah 8:1-23

Key Verse 8:13

“Just as you, Judah and Israel, have been a curse among the nations, so I will save you, and you will be a blessing. Do not be afraid, but let your hands be strong.”

In this passage, what we have is seemly the second part of God’s answer to the Jews’ question in chapter 7. If you recall, they were asking about their traditions of mourning and fasting. And if you recall, most of that chapter was an utter rebuke. Towards the end of that chapter the Jews from Bethel were probably scratching their heads wondering if coming down here to get rebuked was really such a good idea. Was It Really For Me That You Fasted

Zechariah 7:1-14

“Ask all the people of the land and the priests, ‘When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months for the past seventy years, was it really for me that you fasted?’”

In the year 520 B.C. [that’s two years prior to the events of this chapter we are studying in Zechariah 7] God had sent the prophet Haggai to the priests at the temple with a question concerning a certain law. When something that’s ceremonially clean touches something that’s unclean, will it make it clean? And the answer of course is no, it will not. The Man Whose Name Is The Branch

Four Straining Chariots Of Judgment

Wickedness

“He said, “This is wickedness,” and he pushed her back into the basket and pushed its lead cover down on it.”

Last week we studied the first part of this chapter. It was a vision about a flying scroll. This is the curse that is going out over the land. This scroll says every thief and everyone who swears falsely will be banished. We need to be full of integrity wherever we are and under any circumstance. The Flying Scroll

Zechariah 5:1-4

Key Verse 5:2

“He asked me, ‘What do you see?’ I answered, ‘I see a flying scroll, thirty feet long and fifteen feet wide.’”

The first five visions are certainly prophecies of hope and of glory. They abound in most glorious promises of restoration and enlargement of temporal and spiritual prosperity and blessing. These promises in the full sense are still to be fulfilled. God has promised restoration but before that longed for day of blessing can come, both the land and people must be cleansed from everything that defiles or works wickedness. For covenant blessings may not be enjoyed without covenant obedience.
