Dedications And Purifications

Nehemiah 12:27-13:31

Key Verse 13:22

“Then I commanded the Levites to purify themselves and go and guard the gates in order to keep the Sabbath day holy. Remember me for this also, O my God, and show mercy to me according to your great love.”

Purification! Purification is the act of making that which had become dirty or contaminated clean again. The purification of the returned exiles— the people of God— was vital to the life of the newly rebuilt nation. The people under the leadership of Nehemiah had rebuilt the wall. The temple worship had been reinstitute. The Law had been publically read. And the people had responded to it. “We Will Not Neglect The House Of Our God”

Nehemiah 10:39b-11:36 (10:39b-11:4)

“We will not neglect the house of our God.”

What Nehemiah was given to do by God was nearly impossible. But he served his mission well. The wall had been built. Worship had been restored to the people. The people had finally gathered to listen to the word of God. in the word of God they heard what they had never heard before. They heard the law God had passed down to Moses. “The rest of the people–priests, Levites, gatekeepers, singers, temple servants and all who separated themselves from the neighboring peoples for the sake of the Law of God, together with their wives and all their sons and daughters who are able to understand— all these now join their brothers the nobles, and bind themselves with a curse and an oath to follow the Law of God given through Moses the servant of God and to obey carefully all the commands, regulations and decrees of the Lord our Lord.”

The Multitudes Of Heaven Worship You

Nehemiah 9:1-36

“Blessed be your glorious name, and may it be exalted above all blessing and praise. You alone are the Lord. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. Bring Out The Book Of The Law

Nehemiah 8:1-18

“Ezra praised the Lord, the great God; and all the people lifted their hands and responded, ‘Amen! Amen!’ Then they bowed down and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground.”

In the last passage we studied, he tells us these words: “So my God put it into my heart to assemble the nobles, the officials and the common people for registration by families.” (7:5) It was God’s initiative to register the people by families. Registration By Families

Nehemiah 7:1-5 (+ 6-73)

Key Verse 7:5a

“So my God put it into my heart to assemble the nobles, the officials and the common people for registration by families.”

Rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem had been difficult. Attempts to hinder the work, together with threats against Nehemiah were made. But the work kept on going on and the walls kept on rising. When Nehemiah left his position of power and authority in the service of the King of Persia, he  was fulfilling the Lord’s will in his life. The Lord had given him a mission to do. And what God had put on his heart to do was far more important than anything else he could have done in his life. Nehemiah 5:1-19

“So I continued, “What you are doing is not right. Shouldn’t you walk in the fear of our God to avoid the reproach of our Gentile enemies?”

When the Jews began to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem under the supervision of Nehemiah, there was a lot of opposition to the rebuilding project especially from their neighbors— the Samaritans, the Arabs and the Ammonites. These were not happy that the Jews were once again rebuilding their capital city. They used fear tactics to intimidate the workers in the hopes that the work would stop. Don’t Be Afraid Of Them

Nehemiah 4:1-23

“After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, ‘Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.’”

Nehemiah was commissioned by God to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, a tedious and almost impossible task for a man who didn’t know anything about wall building. Nehemiah was grief-stricken when he heard the bad news. The people who had returned to Jerusalem after 70 years of exile were in trouble. Nehemiah, the Man of God

Nehemiah 1:1-11

“When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.”

The Jewish people were once slaves in Egypt, but God rescued them by raising up a leader Moses who brought about their deliverance and led them until they found their home in the promised land. Through the years, they developed from a group of tribes into one nation under king Saul, and later under king David who completely unified them into a formidable nation.
