Colossians 4:2-18

“And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains.”

This passage is the conclusion of the book of Colossians. In a short letter such as this lies all the wisdom of heaven. Paul had taught them many things. But he also taught them something very crucial to the wellbeing of their church. They were a church. But they were also families of faith joined together to be the church God had called them to be. The good shepherd Paul, whose heart was after the Lord’s heart did not hesitate for a moment to penetrate the Gospel teaching to the very heart of the family and family life of the Colossian Christians. Set Your Hearts On Things Above

Colossians 3:1-17

Key Verse 3:1,2

“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”

The Colossian Christians have been truly converted to the Gospel of our Lord Jesus. They had heard the message of the Gospel, and had accepted the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus on their behalf. They had confessed their sins, and received forgiveness through faith in Jesus’ death. God Made You Alive With Christ

Colossians 2:8-23

“and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority.”

Paul had been concerned about the Colossian Christian. He struggled for them in prayer, and  wrote them a beautiful letter which later became an indispensible Scripture in determining what is Gospel truth and what is not. In the letter he extols Christ and His redeeming work. He also warns them against false teachings and heresies that had already infiltrated the early church and had led some astray from the True Gospel and the True faith. Colossians 2:5-7

“rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”

Paul had been struggling very hard for the Colossian Christians. (2:1) Paul’s concern for Colossae’s Christians had been serious. No sooner had the Gospel take root in people’s hearts and begin to spread throughout the known world, than enemies rose up to fight against it. Even Paul himself had once been an enemy of the Gospel. Treasures Of Wisdom And Knowledge

Colossians 2:1-5

“My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ.”

Colossians is a letter Paul had written to the Christians in Colossae. He did not know them personally since they were not his own converts but the converts of his disciple Epaphras. But he loved them as if they were his own. Even in the early stages of Gospel ministry, false prophets and teachers had begun to spread false gospels wherever the True Gospel was being preached. The Supremacy Of Jesus Christ

Colossians 1:15–19

“And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.”

The word “Supremacy” perfectly defines Jesus Christ. After greeting the church at Colosse, Paul immediately began to state some immutable truths that would forever define Jesus Christ— who he is— and what he did. In Paul’s time, the Colossian church had been infiltrated by heretics who had their own ideas about the Lord Jesus and his Gospel. We can state those heresies and try to refute them one by one.
