In the last part of chapter 26, the king’s words of sarcasm didn’t escape Paul’s attention. Paul had given him the words of life; words that could save his soul from the hell he lived in every day, and from the damnation he would eventually face at the judgment of God. But when he heard Paul, he had blurted out sarcastic words that reflected pride and ignorance; he said: “Do you think that in such a short time you can persuade me to be a Christian?” (26:28) And as if the answer was already … Read the rest

What is a testimony? When’s the last time you have testified to someone about your life and faith? What makes a testimony real or not? Does it depend on how many people are touched? Does it depend on how eloquently you’ve laid it out? If you’ve forgotten, or aren’t quite clear about this, this is the right message to listen to. Because today we’re going to lay out this very important part of our calling and mission using Paul’s testimony. That is the calling to testify to small and great alike … Read the rest

He Spoke About Faith In Christ Jesus

Acts 24:1-27

Key Verse: 24:24-25

“Several days later Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was a Jewess. He sent for Paul and listened to him as he spoke about faith in Christ Jesus. As Paul discoursed on righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, ‘That’s enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you.’”

Paul was dragged before the huge 70 member Jewish religious council by the Roman commander to find out why the crowds at the temple were trying to kill Paul, but he couldn’t find out why. In fact, a violent dispute had broken out between them when Paul challenged them to consider why he was really on trial.
My Hope In The Resurrection!

Acts 23:1-35

Key Verse: 23:6b

“I stand on trial because of my hope in the resurrection of the dead.”

The chapter begins with the apostle Paul addressing the Sanhedrin assembly of seventy Jewish elders to his own defense. The Roman commander had ordered that they assemble in the hopes of finding out why Paul had drawn such hostility from the crowd at the temple. No sooner did Paul speak a few words before the hostility of this assembly became apparent as well. So, Paul having full and intimate knowledge of the Jewish religious system before which he now stood, also understood he would find no justice here at all. Let me explain. This is a very interesting observation, even if we have to mention it again.
Acts 22:22-23:1

Key verse 23:1

“Paul looked straight at the Sanhedrin and said, ‘My brothers, I have fulfilled my duty to God in all good conscience to this day.’”

When Paul came to know the Lord personally, nothing was ever the same for him. He a was changed man, inside out, being transformed from within and from without. Years later Paul talked about this transformation which every born against Christian goes through in meeting the Lord personally when he said: “We, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” (2 Corinthians 3:18) Exactly as he said then! He met the Lord and began to “reflect the Lord’s glory” in his life. Paul Testifies Before The Crowd

Acts 21:27-22:21

Key verse 22:14-15

“Then he said: ‘The God of our fathers has chosen you to know his will and to see the Righteous One and to hear words from his mouth. You will be his witness to all men of what you have seen and heard.’”

In verses 17 through 26 Luke tells us what happened when Paul first arrived at Jerusalem, where things began with sweet fellowship with James, the head of the church and the elders. They welcomed Paul and his companions and listened to a detailed account of what God had been doing through his ministry among the Gentiles. And when he was done, they were genuinely elated and gave praise to God. We are certain that they were greatly encouraged to also receive the … Read the rest

Acts 21:17-26

Key Verse 26

“The next day Paul took the men and purified himself along with them. Then he went to the temple to give notice of the date when the days of purification would end and the offering would be made for each of them.”

“Why are you weeping and breaking my heart?” (13a) Paul told the people who came to see him off at Philip’s house in Caesarea. It was hard enough for him to know what’s going to happen to him when he would finally get to Jerusalem. He had been informed by the Holy Spirit that in Jerusalem nothing but hardship and prison were in store for him there. And then wherever he went, those who loved him who knew by the Spirit what would … Read the rest

“The Lord’s Will Be Done”

Acts 21:1-16

Key Verse: 21:13

“Then Paul answered, ‘Why are you weeping and breaking my heart? I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.’”

Paul’s farewell address to the Ephesian church elders on the beach at Miletus is one of the most beautiful and moving speeches to ever be recorded in the Bible. They reflect the man Paul’s shepherd heart for God’s people whom he raised in the Lord and whom he loved as if they were his own children. He was truly a man in Christ whose legacy was stamped on every heart his life influenced and changed. When he finished speaking to these elders, they all tearfully parted company and Paul and his companions were … Read the rest

Paul’s Farewell to the Ephesian Elders (20:1-38)

He was on his way to Jerusalem. He did not want to stop at Ephesus. We are not sure why. But it may be that he wanted to avoid places like home. Its hard to pry oneself away from home and from places we love and cherish in our hearts. Ephesus was like this to Paul— a place he could call home. The people there were his family. They loved him, and they would do anything to keep him. he in turn may be tempted to remain … Read the rest

I Must Visit Rome Also

Acts 19:13-41

Key Verse 19:21

“After all this had happened, Paul decided to go to Jerusalem, passing through Macedonia and Achaia. ‘After I have been there,’ he said, ‘I must visit Rome also.’”

We started chapter 19 and so far spoke quite a bit about those “believing” “disciples” that Luke mentions at the beginning of the chapter who actually scare us. They scare us because as many as existed in those days back then, they exist today as well; and the scary thing about them is that they are believers who actually consider themselves disciples of the Lord Jesus, but who do not have the Holy Spirit. Worse yet, many of them have no idea who the Holy Spirit is! And that’s scary. It’s not their fault though. It’s the … Read the rest

About The Kingdom Of God

BY PASTOR TEDDY

Acts 19:8-16; 1-7

Key Verse: 19:10

“This went on for two years, so that all the Jews and Greeks who lived in the province of Asia heard the word of the Lord.”

The first part of this chapter (19:1-7) is troubling. It is always troubling when one reads it. Twelve men, not one or two, but twelve men who could potentially be a disaster of false teaching! Twelve men who were probably associated with, or even personally taught by the charismatic Apollos— of course— before he was educated by the house church of Priscilla and Aquila, if you haven’t caught this the first time, Luke says they were believers and disciples! So we can say they were believing disciples of the Lord. And here’s what’s deeply troubling … Read the rest

Key Verse: 19:5

“On hearing this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.”

Look at 18:24-25. It’s describing Apollos. “He was a learned man, with a thorough knowledge of the Scriptures. He had been instructed in the way of the Lord, and he spoke with great fervor and taught about Jesus accurately, though he knew only the baptism of John.” In other words, although he had a good knowledge of the Bible, and had been acquainted with the way of the Lord Jesus, and taught about him accurately, and with a passion, there was something terribly wrong with his understanding of the way of life, and the true gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. The core— the heartbeat— of the gospel was missing from … Read the rest

IF IT’S THE WILL OF GOD

Acts 18:9-28

Key Verse 18:21

“But as he left, he promised, ‘I will come back if it is God’s will.’ Then he set sail from Ephesus.”

We left off at the Lord’s words to Paul. The Lord Jesus, spoke both revealing and consoling words to Paul’s ears. “Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent. (10) For I am with you, and no one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this city.” To someone like the Apostle Paul, we’d have to wonder why he would need such words. When a man decides to run back into the city that just stoned him, we’d have to wonder why he would have cause to fear. He already seems fearless. “DO NOT BE AFRAID; KEEP ON SPEAKING”

“One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision: ‘Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent. For I am with you, and no one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this city.’”

“What is this babbler trying to say?” (17:18) That’s what the sophisticated philosophical people of Athens were saying about Paul and his gospel message. What a travesty that Jesus and his servants are treated this way, whether back in those days or even today. Most people, especially the stoic intellectuals and the egocentric philosophers who trust in intellect and logic, in science and ego more than they trust in their Creator God and his message, are expected to behave … Read the rest

Acts 17:16-34

Key Verse 17:31

“For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.”

And now we want to look at how Athens responded to the gospel message. It’s interesting how a city like that with such a rich cultural history had the worst response, for its people responded as expected— with skepticism. Uninterested, cynical, unbelieving and disdainful of it! Mind you, that’s human culture at its finest and re-finest! But if you grow up in a culture that idolizes itself above all else— a culture that teaches you to worship the ego, the intellectual, and all that’s human and super human, how … Read the rest

Acts 16:6-10; 17:1-15

Key Verse: 17:11

“Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.”

As you may know, we are still following Paul’s second missionary journey as he makes his way into Europe, following his vision of the man of Macedonia. (16:6-10) He makes his way to Philippi, where two famous and extraordinary conversions take place. First, there’s this Lydia, an amazing and successful business woman, whom Luke initially describes as a “worshiper of God”, but after she hears Paul’s sermon and receives the gospel into her heart, she refers to herself as a “Believer in the Lord”! Prison Songs In The Night

BY Pastor Teddy

Acts 16:16-40

Key Verse 16:34

“The jailer brought them into his house and set a meal before them; he was filled with joy because he had come to believe in God— he and his whole family.”

We saw in last passage how Paul was so eager to pioneer Asia. It was on his heart to go there and share the treasure of the gospel with that province; and I suppose his companions Silas and Luke and whoever else might have accompanied him went along with Paul’s decision since he was the driving force of all missionary journeys. There was no one like him with a passion to pioneer new places and to plant new churches where Christ was not heard of.
