2 Peter 3:10-18

Key Verse 3:13

“But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.”

Peter tells us that the false teachers scorn the authority of scripture and undermine the lordship of Christ Jesus.  Especially they scorn the promises of God in the Scripture—  those great and precious promises God. Where Is This ‘Coming’ He Promised?

2 Peter 3:1-9

Key Verse 3:9

“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”

In the last chapter Peter warns us about false teachers. He talks mostly about the character of false teachers in the church. He tells us that they are morally corrupt— their viewpoint on sex is unbiblical— liberal and unhealthy. Their sinful nature governs all their actions. They are hungry for fame and fortune. False Teachers In The Church [Part II]

2 Peter 2:10-22

Key verse 17

“These men are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them.” 

In the first part, Peter talks about the seriousness of false teaching and teachers in the church; and their imminent judgment which is coming. He shows us who they are. The second part, he uncovers for us what’s really on their hearts— their motive in promoting false teachings. We can see right through them if we listen to Peter’s warning.

False Teachers In The Church

2 Peter 2:1-9

“But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them— bringing swift destruction on themselves.”

Peter knew that the Christians of the time were suffering all kinds of persecution from the secular and religious world. And a new threat was also emerging that threatened to cause them internal suffering— the threat of false teachers.
