By Msn. Rene

2 Corinthians 13:1-14

Key Verse: 4

“For to be sure, he was crucified in weakness, yet he lives by God’s power. Likewise, we are weak in him, yet by God’s power we will live with him to serve you.”

Look at chapter 12, verse 19. Paul tells the Corinthian Christians “We have been speaking” and “Everything we do, dear friends, is for your strengthening.” When we review his whole letter, and listen to some of the words he had been telling them, some of his words and actions towards them have certainly been viewed as harsh. But as he confesses to them, it had all been said and done for their own good, for their own strengthening! Look also at verses 20-21.
The Thorn That Blesses

2 Corinthians 12:1-21

Key Verse 12:9

‘“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.’

When we look at what many like to boast about today, or what many like to exalt in their life, it’s usually not in weaknesses. It’s not the unpleasant trials of life. It’s not in illness. It’s not people losing their jobs. It’s not in tough relationships. We like to exalt in our abilities, successes and achievements. But weaknesses don’t usually make the list. A watered down and false view of Christianity, is one in which Christians lose their weaknesses and hardships. That’s the view that seems … Read the rest

2 Corinthians 11:1-33

Key Verse: 11:12

“And I will keep on doing what I am doing in order to cut the ground from under those who want an opportunity to be considered equal with us in the things they boast about”

I thank God that he gave us the gift of his words. Whenever we think we understood a point in the word of God we realize how deep and vast God’s words are. Last week Msn. Mark focused on humility or humbleness as he mentioned. To continue Paul’s defense in this chapter, I want to touch a bit on humility again. So, I will ask you few questions so that we can together understand and explore humility further in a personal level. My questions are from spiritual point of view.
Every Thought Obedient to Christ

2 Corinthians 10:1-18

Key Verse: 10:5

“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

In chapters 10-12, Paul defends his apostleship. Some false apostles were discrediting Paul to steal the Corinthian church for their own gain. Paul was compelled to help the Corinthians hold on to gospel faith for the glory of Christ and their own salvation. So he defended his apostleship. In doing so, Paul fights fiercely like Captain America against the forces of evil. There are many kinds of warfare: military conflicts between nations, psychological warfare, trade war, political fights, conflicts in relationships, and so on. However, we can simplify them into two kinds: worldly warfare and spiritual warfare. … Read the rest

All Grace Abounding

2 Corinthians 9:1-15

Key Verse 9:8

“And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”

We have been taking somewhat of an in-depth look at the privilege of Offering or Giving we inherit from our Lord Jesus through the Holy Spirit whom our Lord Jesus sends to indwell every believer upon their conversion. Giving or Offering is a privilege among all the other things that are described in these 2 chapters of 2nd Corinthians, 8 & 9. As the apostle well explains it, to put it simply, Giving— or the Offering as it may be— is first expressed in Acts of Grace as enacted by the Lord God himself … Read the rest

2 Corinthians 8:1-15

Key Verse 8:9

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.”

On the coastal sands of the Miletus, in his farewell speech to the Ephesian church elders, the apostle left them some very meaningful words to compliment everything else he had taught them about the Lord Jesus, about the Christian life, and about the life and health of the church Jesus entrusted them with. It wasn’t long when we reflected on that speech as we studied Acts, since the last few words of his speech continue to echo on in the hearts of everyone of the Lord’s children who’s been touched … Read the rest

2 Corinthians 7:1-16

Key Verse 7:10

“Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.”

One time I had someone ask me to write them a recommendation letter to get into seminary school. I was honored and surprised. I thought to myself, “Can my letter really help them? I’m not a professor or doctor, and I’ve never written this type of letter before.” So, I looked on the web to see what people even put in these things. And as honest as I could be, I wrote based off the points I thought reasonable. And by the grace of God, this person was accepted, and is now feeling the full brunt of what seminary has to offer.

” I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.”

We studied last week about believers’ reconciliation to God. That reconciliation is based on the salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ by the grace of God. God’s grace to us was through giving his one and only son as a sacrifice to die for us and rise again. This gave us the path of salvation. Last week it was important in one way to complete chapter 5 with the first two verses of chapter 6. But these two verses are also important for us to understand the rest of the chapter. So today we will study chapter 6 from verse 1 to 18.

The first two verses in chapter 6 carry on the instruction from chapter 5 concerning our calling and task as Christ’s ambassadors. God has just finished a passionate plea that each person who is a new creation in Christ Jesus participate in the ministry of reconciliation. Each one reconciled by Christ is to be involved in reconciling the world to God. But not all those in the church are for one way or another. They have missed their ministry. According to our text, they have received the grace of God in vain.

When one receives the grace of God, the life should vindicate itself by being God’s steward or workman … Read the rest

A Ministry Of Reconciliation

2 Corinthians 5:11-21

Key Verse: 5:20

“We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.”

In verse 10 Paul reminded the Christian believers in Corinth that “We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.” These words in no way threaten a true believer’s salvation, because when you’re washed in the blood of the Lamb, your name is in the book of life and that’s that! However, these words were a reminder that every Christian will be judged for how we lived our Christian life while in the body. The Lord will evaluate each … Read the rest

We Make It Our Goal To Please Him

2 Corinthians 5:9-10

“So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.”

Last week’s key verse was verse 5, and titled: Fashioned For This Purpose. “Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.” God fashioned us [or created us] for this very purpose, that we might never suffer death but be clothed in everlasting life in glory with him forever in his kingdom.
Every week, when we hear about the persecution going on in the world against our fellow believers, our brothers and sisters, it’s almost wonderful to hear of their strong faith, or confidence, or their heart in spreading the gospel. When we hear of their trials, their sufferings, their needs, I marvel at the fact that although I don’t know them, their testimonies are those of a fully devoted, uncompromising, gentle, forgiving, faithful ministers of God. Do you wonder how that’s possible? What keeps their hearts alive in the midst of such circumstances?
2 Corinthians 4:1-18

Key Verse 4: “But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.”

Good morning. This morning I would like to briefly go over one point from last week’s passage, since today’s passage is a natural continuation in the flow of this letter. You remember that M. Mark taught us about the New covenant and the old covenant. I want to take you a bit to the Jewish mind before the coming of Christ. What were the Jews thinking about the covenant with God? What were they thinking about the Law of God? From checking resources, I realized that the most important act in the Jewish belief or faith is “Keeping the Law” which means keeping the ten … Read the rest

WE ARE MINISTERS OF A NEW COVENANT

2 Corinthians 3:1-18

Key Verse: 3:6

“He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant— not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”

In the passage, Paul explains how he/we became ministers of a new covenant (1-6). He also talk about how glorious our ministry is, and what blessings we have received (7-16, 18-19).

You are a letter from Christ (1-6)

First, you yourselves are our letter (1-3). Look at verse 1. “Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, like some people, letters of recommendation to you or from you?” Here Paul is addressing a problem in his relationship to the Corinthians. They had been influenced by false apostles who … Read the rest

Good morning, let me say happy Mother’s Day to all our mothers of prayer who raised generations of faithful workers in Christ Jesus and sacrificed their lives to serve in this generation.

Before we explore our passage today and give a brief touch from the first chapter, we studied in the previous two weeks. I would like to take you back 2,000 years ago and try to understand with you how it was like living in the city of Corinth. I would like to see what type of people that made up the church of Corinth. In this way we can understand the … Read the rest

2 Corinthians 1:12-24

Key Verse: 1:20

“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ. And so through him the ‘Amen’ is spoken by us to the glory of God.”

It won’t be hard to understand this particular passage once we understand what Paul’s point is in these verses. They come across as his self defense which we will look at very closely, because there’s much to learn from them. Interestingly however, let’s not forget that he’s defending himself to a church and believers he himself had evangelized, and personally taught the Scriptures to, not casually but with the devotion of a father to his own children. He had loved them deeply, served them fervently and mentored them with the eagerness of Christ … Read the rest

As we have just finished our journey through the book of Acts, and may many of its lessons stick with us, we’re beginning yet another journey through Paul’s third letter to the Corinthian church— the Book of 2nd Corinthians. You might be surprised to know that this is not Paul’s second letter to them, as the second letter is thought to be lost. There’s much to say however, about the context of this letter, but many things will be explained as we go along. But as a forewarning, this book isn’t an easy book … Read the rest
