1 Corinthians 16:1-24,

This chapter is the final chapter in Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians. After assigning an entire magnificent chapter to the issue of resurrection, Paul now concludes his letter to them. He talks to them about offering. He talks about his future plans to visit them. He then gives them a final exhortation. And finally he relays greetings to them. In this last chapter we find a summary of Paul’s purpose in writing this letter to the church at Corinth.

In the key verse Paul exhorts the Corinthian church to excel in the gifts that build up the church. That exhortation is at the heart of the Lord’s desire. The church is the bride of the Lord. “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

In the last verse of the previous chapter 12, Paul counseled the Corinthian Christians like this: “But eagerly desire the greater gifts.” When Paul said that, he probably meant the gifts of faith, of hope and of love. This chapter begins with lessons from history. The Israelites whom God rescued from slavery in Egypt had turned their hearts to evil things rather than to God, and God severely disciplined them for that. Love Builds Up

“Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.”

Christian freedom is a gift of God. If you are a Christian, you have all the precious blessings of heaven (whether you are aware of it or not). You have the grace of our Lord Jesus in abundance. You have the forgiveness of God, and you have a holy purpose to your life. If you are a Christian, you also have eternal life, and entry into the holy kingdom of God; treasures beyond limit. If you are a Christian, Christ has set you free and so you have freedom beyond measure. The question is how to use your Christian freedom!
